Resource Mobilization

Power of One

Resource Mobilization is not about asking for money; it is about being convinced and passionate of a cause that you share with others and invite them to be part of that cause.

Creating social awareness about the plight of Dalit and Tribal Children among school and college students in cities is part of our agenda. We believe that such an awareness campaign will enhance the students’ holistic development and that these students will grow up with concern for the less privileged leading them to be responsible citizens of our country. After taking permission from the authorities, we go to schools and colleges and talk to the students about the plight of their peers in rural areas of our country. We also tell them what we do to alleviate the situation. Students who wilfully volunteer to support the project are given either stamp cards or bookmarks. This is the Power of One Campaign – how one person can make a difference in the life of another.

Stamp Card: Each card has 35 stamps, and each stamp is sold for Rs.20. A middle or high school student can collect one or more card/s and sell all the stamps or just a few that she or he is capable to sell. The card talks about the Earn While You Learn initiative that we have introduced in many rural schools, which is making a difference in the attitude of poor parents towards sending their children to school.

Book Marks: Each bookmark has a real story of a young girl in rural areas who has been rescued from Child marriage. A college student can take these and sell them for Rs.30 each and the proceeds will go to the project. Students can buy or sell these products and raise funds for the project. All schools and colleges that we approach are not equally responsive to such an awareness campaign. There are some heart-warming and encouraging responses. In December 2018, the students at Goodwill Girls High School’ and Composite PU College, Bangalore, paid keen attention to the presentation. Although these children come from Lower middle-class families, they managed to raise Rs.48,480 through their efforts for an anti-trafficking project that we are implementing in Jharkhand. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this activity could not be carried out in 2020.
